The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal
Trying to force things that are inherently unequal to be equal can actually be more harmful than just acknowledging and accepting the inequality. It’s a pretty deep concept, but when you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense.
But why does inequality exist?
Look, things are different. People have different abilities, different experiences, different backgrounds – and that’s okay. It’s what makes us unique and allows us to bring different perspectives and ideas to the table. But when we try to force things that are inherently unequal to be equal, we’re not really solving the problem. We’re just ignoring it and pretending it doesn’t exist.
Let’s say that a company is trying to promote diversity and equality in the workplace. They might try to force everyone to have the same opportunities, regardless of their qualifications or experience. But that’s not really fair, right? Someone with more experience or qualifications is likely to be more successful in a certain role than someone with less experience. So, trying to force everyone to have the same opportunities is actually creating a form of inequality. It’s not leveling the playing field, it’s only creating an uneven one.
Even in education, when students with different abilities are pushed to learn the same material at the same pace, It can be detrimental to the development of student. It’s important to recognize that students have different learning styles and abilities, and trying to force them to learn the same material at the same pace can actually be detrimental to their education. Instead, it’s better to provide different resources and accommodations for different students so that they can learn at their own pace and in a way that works best for them.
This is a foolishly sensible reminder that inequality is a natural part of life and trying to force things that are inherently unequal to be equal can be more harmful than just acknowledging and accepting the inequality.
It’s important to recognize that people have different abilities, experiences, and backgrounds, and it’s important to provide different resources and accommodations for different individuals instead of treating everyone the same. This way we can create a more fair and just society where everyone can reach their full potential.
